Tierra Bella

Saturday May 3rd, 2025

Tierra Bella, Spanish for beautiful countryside, has been one of the best century rides in the Bay Area since 1977. The graceful hills of Gilroy Hot Springs and Henry Coe, exploding with poppies and lupines, giant Manzanitas and Oak trees with crooked knots reminding us of VanGogh paintings, are unchanged since the days John Muir first walked from San Francisco to Yosemite. The valley, dotted with fields of garlic, cabbage, sprouts, and many vineyards await the Tierra Bella cyclists, tempting them to go faster with a tailwind to our new home at Christmas Hill Park.

Many ACTC Members grew up here, some worked in these fields, tended the life stocks, a field biologist received his doctorate degree studying mountain lions at Henry Coe Park, teachers at local elementary to high schools, and everything in between. It’s really a wonderful experience to volunteer and ride with these friends who bring alive our beautiful Tierra Bella.

Thank you Patty Dougherty for leading Tierra Bella once again but Patty can’t do it alone. We need all of our help to make it a success. Please fill all the volunteer-positions early so we can spend more effort to improve riders’ experience at the Tierra Bella Century. With everyone’s help, Tierra Bella will live up to our expectations, to be the best and the prettiest Century Ride.

Best,
Tony Le
ACTC President
